You are probably used to determine the best beauty products for your delicate skin. Cleansers, toners, moisturizers and serums…all of them need to be carefully chosen for your skin type. Sunless tanning products are of course, not an exception.
We are all looking for that vacation glow, but blemishes or breakouts might be undermining your spray tan experience. The more you break out, the more tan you want to layer on. But the more tan your layer on, the more breakouts appear…
This is really frustrating. BUT, all is not lost. We are here to explain everything about sunless tanning and how you can use your Tanrevel even though you have acne prone skin.
THE TANREVEL FORMULA:
Our formula, like most spray tanning formulas contains an ingredient called dihydroxyacetic acid (DHA). This is used to change the color of dead cells on the surface of your skin.
But unlike other spray tan formulas, we have developed it to be nourishing for your skin. Our formula contains aloe vera which moisturizes and rejuvenates the skin. We have also filled it with vitamin C which works as an antioxidant protection. This protects your skin from the various harmful molecules in the air that also makes our skin age faster.
1. The biggest villain behind a patchy tan or breakouts underneath your tan is… too dry skin.
Acne treatments containing ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can cause dry skin. Dry spots can affect the result of your tan since it will absorb the product more thoroughly and create a darker look. So if you for example use spot treatments on your blemishes, they will come out extra-tinted and give you a patchy look.
If you are using products like retinoid or vitamin A, they could cause your tan to fade faster which could result in light spots wherever the retinoid has been applied.
If you have sensitive skin, you should look out for tanning products that rely on dehydrating ingredients like denatured alcohol, which can dry out your complexion. This makes your oil-producing, sebaceous glands overcompensate by pumping out extra oil. You do not want to end up with a greasy face and blocked pores!
2. We know that it might be annoying to reapply the tan over and over again, but do not skip your cleansing routine!
Fear of washing away your tan can tempt you to skip your other skincare routine for a few days, but this is a ––– for breakouts!
When you skip your cleansing routine, your skin will be piling up with oil, skin cells, make up and other impurities. Without a good cleanse, these things will start blocking pores, which is only one step away from blemishes.
Luckily, it only takes a minute to reapply the tan with Tanrevel. After your daily cleansing ritual, just spray for a minute (or two, depending on how tanned you want to be) and you are good to go!
You don’t want to risk the harmful UV rays from regular sun tanning, but you do not want to smother your delicate skin with fake tan products that don’t fit your skin type. Talk about choosing between two evils!
Lucky for us, a little thoughtfulness can make all the difference for a safe sunless tanning routine. Take these spets to create a kinder and gentler tanning routine:
DO A PATCH TEST
If you are concerned that a product might upset your skin, always do a patch test! Apply a little of your new product somewhere unnoticeable and let the color develop. If you experience any kind of burning or discomfort, abort mission! This is not the product for you.
Your acne prone skin will not keep you from a flawless tan. It is all about prepping your skin the right way! Exfoliating is a self-tanning must, it is especially critical if you have acne prone skin. Dead skin cells tend to hand out in areas that surround pimples. You want to make sure your skin is as smooth as possible before you apply any type of tanning solution. Exfoliating will do the trick to prevent inconsistent results.
So after you exfoliate, your pores will be opened which could allow the tanning precut to penetrate too deep and start forming clogs. Luckily, there is a way to prevent this. Use a cold compress or ice facial between cleansing and tanning and the cool temperature will help tighten your pores!
KEEP YOUR SKIN CLEAN OF ACNE TREATMENTS PRE AND POST TAN
It might a central part of your skin care ritual, but it is not a good idea to use topical acne treatments of any kind on your face or body prior or directly after using Tanrevel. Most acne treatments, including face washes, containing salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide will dry out the skin. This could affect the result of your tan. For example it might make the tan too dark in certain areas and peel off in others.
Skip the harsh acids and chemicals and instead choose a gentler option for your skin.
Keeping your skin moisturized and hydrated can help your skin to hold on to its fresh tan. Although we recommend waiting 1-2 hours before or after using Tanrevel.
